Unified Work Management

Initiative / Admin Workflow Optimisation

Design and deliver a consolidated experience that unifies tasks and workflow into a clearer, more actionable system.

Open in Linear

Update how work is surfaced and actioned across tasks and workflow. The objective is to create a cohesive consolidated view that brings together assigned individual and group tasks, workflow items, and deferred work into a single, intuitive view.

This includes:

  • Consolidated view of the current admin user's tasks, their group tasks, and relevant workflow items
  • Ability to snooze or defer tasks
  • Ability to view and unsnooze both tasks and workflow snoozed items

The Workflow Optimisations project is now complete, with major performance improvements delivered to the Workflow screen within the Admin app. This materially reduces wait times for admins and improves reliability when working across workflows at scale.

The most visible gain is page load speed. In production, loading with two workflows selected dropped from 23.65 seconds to around 388 milliseconds - roughly 60x faster. Overall, this gives admin teams a much faster and more scalable experience as workflow demand grows.

The next release introduces a meaningful performance improvement to the Workflow screen by moving patient status generation to a scheduled background process. This reduces the need for heavy, on-demand computation when loading the grid.

Admins should experience faster load times, fewer expensive queries during grid access, and improved responsiveness when working across workflows. This change provides a more stable short-term foundation while longer-term architectural improvements continue to be developed.

Task flow optimisations have progressed, with improvements delivered across performance and usability. Tasks grid performance has been optimised, helping reduce admin friction and speed up day-to-day task management.

Follow-up fixes also improved the task type and task assignee filters with autocomplete support, and introduced bookmarkable filter states. Overall, these updates help make task workflows faster and more reliable for admin teams.
